Last Service Learning

This last service learning was obviously our most successful. We went to two businesses during work hours and presented to them what Kiva was and how they could join in.

The reason this service learning was our most successful was because we received a $5000 donation to lend to entrepreneurs through Kiva. This donation will allow us to fully fund entrepreneurs instead of having multiple people donate to the same person.

Thanks a ton for the donation.

February Service Learning Date

Surf's Up! This time we went to the beach with our dogs (and a tortoise?). Surprisingly, the beach was packed with people walking their dogs and getting some Wednesday morning exercise. The tortoise and our dogs were able to garner quite the crowd and people were more than willing to listen to us as we explained Kiva to all of them. I am quite sure that we were able to make quite a few more Kiva lenders today!

January Service Learning Date

This Service Learning, we essentially had a dress rehearsal in the Sage Hill community. In the Quad, we set up three separate tables in which we worked on getting Kiva out to as many Sage Hill faculty members and students as we could. It was a relatively successful day seeing as we talked to quite a few faculty members for an extended period of time. Hopefully we will have some future Kiva lenders out of them!

Service Learning: December 9th

Today, we had four groups of students in front of shopping centers in the Newport area. The four shopping centers were the Pavilions at San Joaquin and Newport Coast, Pavilions at the Port Streets, The Bluffs, and Petco on the corner of MacArthur and Bison. We let people know about Kiva by handing out cards and brochures to anyone who showed interest. In all, we handed out somewhere around 125-150 cards and brochures in a relatively short amount of time. Hopefully, we will get quite a few of those who we handed cards to interested in joining Kiva and making a life changing loan to an entrepreneur in a developing economy. Remember, be sure to join our team on Kiva to help us out. Click on this for a direct link to our team page to become a member of our team.

Special thanks to the Irvine Company and the store owners who let us have a spot in front of their stores.

SagEcon Day 2

Group members planned for their first venture to spread the word about Kiva. They created brochures and logos in order to help people understand the concept of Kiva. Four team members went to Pavilions and Gelson's and received permission to use the sidewalk to let people know about Kiva. Other team members worked on their presentation to future passerby's. By November 12th, we plan to be ready for our first venture for which we will have banners, brochures, and shirts.

Thank you to the managers of the stores for helping us out!
